IN MEMORIAM ...FREDDIE AGUILAR (1953-2025)

The PMPC Star Awards Inc. mourns the passing of a true icon and pillar of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) — Mr. Freddie Aguilar.
Ka Freddie was not only a powerful voice of the people but a storyteller who gave soul to Filipino struggles, dreams, and history. Through his music, he transcended time and borders, with “Anak” becoming a global anthem of parental love and regret — translated into over 50 languages and embraced by millions around the world. The PMPC had the honor of recognizing his unparalleled contributions to Filipino music twice through our annual Star Awards for Music.
In 2013, we presented him with the Pilita Corrales Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding work and influence as a singer. In 2017, we honored him again with the Parangal Levi Celerio Lifetime Achievement Award, this time celebrating his depth and brilliance as a composer.
To be given both distinctions is a rare feat, a testament to the breadth of his artistry. Freddie Aguilar was not just a performer — he was a voice for the voiceless, a chronicler of our nation’s pulse, and a man whose music stood at the frontline of cultural change. Maraming salamat, Ka Freddie. Ang iyong musika ay mananatiling buhay, gaya ng alaala ng iyong puso para sa bayan. With deepest respect and gratitude, PMPC Star Awards Inc. Star Awards for Music
